Intro to In Car Mini Dance Parties

While this should be no surprise to anyone who actually knows me, I have 2 daughters.  Currently they are ages 6 and 9.  They will be starting the 1st and 4th grades next Monday and I have a slight dilemma on my hands.

Last school year, about halfway through, I decided to have what I like to call "In Car Mini Dance Parties" while waiting in the car line to drop them off in the mornings.  Basically I'd make a CD of popular music, pick a new song every day, start that track once we hit the parking lot, and force them to move all major extremities or I would get out of the car and start dancing myself.  It sounds like a cruel form of punishment (it might actually be one for some kids) but by the time they were getting out of the car to start their day they had smiles plastered on their faces and a nice upbeat song in their heads.  Plus I was able to don a pair of shutter shades a couple times.  I'm sure it's also helping them know it's perfectly alright to be your weird self and let your freak flag fly, but I just think it's fun dancing in the car.

My dilemma is the actual creation of the CD.  I can listen to Electronic Dance Music (aka EDM) all I want and not have any problems with it, but sometimes the lyrics are not exactly suitable for kids.  This put me on a search for kid friendly EDM, which resulted in a whole lot of nothing.  I was surprised that there were little to no sites outlining what kind of EDM would be acceptable for kids under the age of 13.  The sites that I did find listed some well known EDM songs but not many new or original songs.  Not to mention the other so called dance playlists I found made it seem like kids have no idea what good music sounds like or that they don't need to listen to anything made after the 1990's.  Some of you may say "EDM isn't made for kids", but I beg to differ.  If your kids like dubstep/house/dance/techno or whatever you want to call it, let them listen to it.  There are some amazing artists out there with some awesome songs prime for kids to listen to.

So I decided to painstakingly listen to hours upon hours of music to put together a list of EDM songs that would be suitable for kids to listen to and post those findings here.  I'm listing the first 20 songs I found so far with hopes to update the list once a week.  Half of the list will be with lyrics and the other half will be without.  Click on the song to hear it.

Without further ado, I present to you the 2014 Beginning of School In Car Mini Dance Party CD of Awesomeness (or 2014 BOSICMDPCDOA for short):
